Conversations with Sponsors: South Coast Limousines

CONVERSATION #4: SOUTH COAST LIMOUSINES, NOWRA, NSW

South Coast Limousines is a luxury vehicle business in Nowra, in the southern coastal region of New South Wales, specialising in airport and cruise ship transfers, corporate transport, wine tours, weddings and special occasions.

Today I spoke with Coleen, one of the managers of South Coast Limousines, about the company’s decision to sponsor greyhound races at the Nowra racetrack.

15 dogs have been killed at tracks in New South Wales so far this year.

Q: What made you decide to sponsor?

“My granddaughter, the fella she is married to—her father in law, is in charge of the greyhounds here [in Nowra].”

Q: Are you aware of the animal welfare concerns within the industry?

“Yes, probably.”

Q: How does that affect your decision to sponsor?

“It doesn’t affect my decision to sponsor one little bit.”

Q: Why?

“I don’t know about any other state, but I know here, they are well looked after.”

Q: In New South Wales? Did you see the ABC Four Corners report five years ago [that exposed live baiting practices and animal cruelty in NSW]?

“Yes, I didn’t take any notice of it.”

Q: Why didn’t you take any notice of it?

“Do-gooders are trying to stop everything—next it will be horse racing. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not [the report], I don’t care.”

Q: You don’t care that it’s true?

“There is more to worry about than what’s going on in the world out there. I have cancer, so I might not be around to see it.”
